If you have any of these symptoms that indicate you might just have a Yeast Infection, this is a simple self test you can do at home. You can also get a blood and stool test done at the doctor.

3 Ways Candida Outwits Your Defenses

The spectrum of disorders related to Candida overgrowth is wide. Candida albicans is opportunistic yeast that is found in every healthy human being.

Candida releases ammonia into its environment whenever it sees fit.

The problem with Candida overgrowth is that in the most extreme cases it can be deadly. (1)

Because Candida is native to the mouth, the gut, and the vaginal tract, it is common to see Candida overgrowth in otherwise healthy individuals. (2) For example, if you are fighting the flu or are under more stress than usual, Candida overgrowth can show up as thrush in the mouth or as a vaginal yeast infection.

How Candida Invades Your Body

Once Candida has spread within the body, it can deeply infiltrate healthy tissue. Areas like the gut, immune system, and lymph tissue are highly susceptible to a Candida attack.

Once this yeast has the chance to dominate a region of the body, it can spread deeper into the tissue. This is especially problematic when it comes to the gut, the immune system, and lymph tissue that sits just beneath the gut in the abdominal cavity.

Keep in mind that the tissue that makes up the gut wall is semi-permeable; after all, nutrients need a way in.

This makes the area specifically vulnerable to infection, inflammation, and disease.

How Candida outwits your body’s defenses:

1. Candida is programmed to adhere to and invade our cells. Candida uses something called adhesins, which are a type of protein that is found in the cell wall of Candida.

These adhesins function just as you may suspect: They help Candida to adhere to the surface of mucosal tissue. This mucosal tissue is found in places like the mouth, nose, gut, colon, and vaginal wall.

When Candida adheres to mucosal tissue, it creates damage and stimulates a response from the body’s immune system.

2. Candida thrives under stress. In a study done in 2011, scientists subjected Candida to a number of stressors.

These stressors were things like an increase of temperature, which mimics the body’s response to infection when it builds a fever. Communities of Candida were also exposed to oxidative stress and antifungal stress in the form of a common antifungal drug, called fluconazole.

Rather than wither away, communities of Candida shuffled genes around and simply carried on.

Scientists marveled at two points: It seemed that the greater the degree of stress Candida experienced, the more it tailored itself to rise above the stress. Not only that, but the genetic adaptations that took place were specific to each stressor.

3. Candida finds a home just about anywhere in or on the human body! Our stomach acid is an extremely acidic environment for a reason – the low pH of stomach acid helps to protect our body from the onslaught of microorganisms that hitch a ride on our food each and every day. Even with acidic gastric juices, many of us come down with food poisoning or a gut infection.

However, whether it’s the sharply acidic environment of the stomach or the comfy and neutral terrain of the bloodstream, Candida knows how to make itself at home.

Candida releases ammonia into its environment whenever it sees fit. This means that Candida can manipulate its environment and adjust the pH of where it resides.

Unique to Candida is its ability to bounce between forms. Candida is a bit of a shape-shifter. When necessary, it can be a rounded yeast cell or an elongated hyphal cell. Candida can also form spores.

Because Candida yeast cells can shape-shift into an elongated hyphal cell, when given the opportunity, Candida can easily penetrate the gut wall.

And as it turns out, Candida’s ability to alter the pH of its environment also prompts shape-shifting behavior.

candida

NOW. Before you think you have been infected by some outside fiend, you must realize that Candida Albicans is naturally occuring inside of each and every one of us. But why??? Why have this awful creature inside of us??? Well let me tell you something you might or might not want to know. The reason we have Candida is to break down the un-living. For example, when we DIE, Candida is the main benefactor in our decomposition. Now if we are thriving and ALIVE, our candida will stay at bay, dormant. So what does that say about us if we have candida overgrowth??? …Does that mean that we are slowly decaying?

There are things that will feed candida and contribute to our slow decay, such as sugar and heavy metal toxicity. Another semantic running rampant without being diagnosed and treated.

Okay, now that I have you officially freaked out, what do we do???

As with all things, we CLEANSE and then we NOURISH.

So, lets cleanse that candida back to its dormancy! Here is a wide spectrum of options of treatment:

2 Essential Oils That Combat Candida!

Essential oils smell beautiful. But did you also know that many essential oils can support health and fight infection?

Last year, the Journal of Ethnopharmacology published a study highlighting the strength of certain essential oils in controlling overgrowth of the yeast Candida albicans.

Bacteria and yeast do not develop a resistance to herbs and their oils.

Candida is a yeast that naturally lives in the body.

A strong immune system and a healthy inner ecology keep the yeast Candida in check and prevent it from taking over its surrounding environment.

Unfortunately, overuse of antibiotics and a diet full of processed foods, sugar, and gluten limit the body’s ability to keep Candida in check. Because Candida is an opportunistic microorganism, it will multiply when it has the chance and cause issues like thrush, vaginal yeast infections, and systemic candidiasis.

The soothing essential oil clove can provide medicinal benefits to relieve pain and kill parasites in the body. In Chinese herbal medicine, clove is also used to alleviate morning sickness in pregnant women.

Common symptoms of systemic Candida overgrowth include:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Swollen joints
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal cramps and bloating
  • Depression and foggy thinking
  • Mood swings
  • Bad breath

Candida Protects Itself with Biofilm

Candida is especially good at constructing a strong, slimy substance around itself called biofilm.

Like green sludge stuck to the surface of a rock or plaque clinging to teeth, biofilm is a tough slime that can house Candida, parasites, and other disease-causing microbes. As colonies of Candida form and lay down more biofilm, this sticky goo protects the yeast and supports its growth.

Last year, a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology demonstrated that the essential oils of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and clove (Syzygium aromaticum) are especially effective at busting through the tough biofilm that Candida hides behind. (1)

In addition to lemongrass and clove, previous studies have found that the essential oils of thyme, patchouli, and cedarwood can also inhibit the growth of Candida. (2)

Inside the human body, Candida biofilms can limit the reach of powerful prescription antifungal drugs, making candidiasis difficult to treat.

In a hospital setting, Candida biofilms are a serious health hazard. Patients that receive implants—such as catheters or prosthetic heart valves—end up with hospital-acquired Candida. (3) As it turns out, Candida biofilms are incredibly resistant to common antifungal drugs, like amphotericin B and fluconazole. (1)(3)

The Benefits of Lemongrass and Clove

The “problem” with essential oils is that they are made by nature.

In other words, you cannot standardize them, and you cannot patent them. However, like other antifungal and antibacterial herbs, essential oils do not harm the beneficial inner ecology of the body. And, just as important, bacteria and yeast do not develop a resistance to herbs and their oils.

Lemongrass and clove have been used as spices in traditional cooking for centuries. The medicinal value of these herbs (and their oils) is still strong in traditional cultures.

In Brazilian folk medicine, lemongrass has a hypnotic and anticonvulsant effect. Besides helping to break up Candida biofilm, studies also show that lemongrass can lower blood pressure. This may have something to do with the fact that lemongrass is a powerful antioxidant and can help to stop inflammation.

Clove, most notable for its mouth-numbing effect, is popular in Asian, African, and Mexican cuisine.

In Indian Ayurvedic medicine, clove is used to dull pain (especially toothaches), to enhance digestion, and to kill parasites. And likewise, in Chinese herbal medicine, clove warms the digestive fire. It is also used to soothe morning sickness in pregnant women.

Western studies have found that clove is an antioxidant and that it can help to reduce blood sugar levels, as well as ease dental pain.

Consuming essential oils should only take place under the direct supervision of a healthcare professional.

Both lemongrass and clove essential oils are Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) and are certified as Food Additives by the FDA. They may be safely taken internally as a dietary supplement.

Before taking an essential oil, always dilute it in a healthy fat, such as 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or ghee. Usually, no more than 2 drops should be consumed at any one time in a 4-8 hour period. Children under 6 years old should never consume essential oils.

You can also use oils on the skin (topically) if there are skin disorders or diffuse them in the case of a lung infection. When it comes to lemongrass and clove, these oils can be diluted in a carrier oil—15 to 30 drops per 1 ounce of carrier oil—and applied to the skin. We suggest coconut oil because it is a highly stable saturated fat, soothing, and extremely therapeutic for infection.

Candida overgrowth can show up as a vaginal yeast infection. In this case, we recommend 25 drops of oil blended with 2 tablespoons of carrier oil. This can be applied to a tampon and retained for up to 8 hours or placed on a sanitary pad for external signs of overgrowth.

What To Remember Most About This Article:

While essential oils may smell wonderful, you might be completely unaware that they can also fight infection in the body. Certain essential oils have been proven to control Candida yeast overgrowth, alleviating symptoms like chronic fatigue, insomnia, and depression.

Candida is difficult to attack since it protects itself with a slimy biofilm that further supports its growth. Fortunately, essential oils like lemongrass, clove, thyme, patchouli, and cedarwood have been proven to inhibit the growth of systemic Candida.

Natural essential oils have been used in cooking and as medicinal herbs for centuries. Lemongrass can lower blood pressure as it works as a powerful antioxidant in the body. Clove can be used as a natural pain reliever to dull toothaches, improve digestion, kill parasites, and even ease morning sickness in pregnant women.

Heavy Metals as a factor in Candida Overgrowth – Gill Jacobs

With all the myriad of information out there on candida overgrowth and how to treat it, you could be forgiven for overlooking one key factor which could prevent resolution and a return to full health: removal of amalgam fillings and heavy metal toxicity. Of course, following an anti-candida diet is still necessary, together with taking probiotics, good antifungals, and boosting the immune system. But you could save a great deal of time, and money, if you considered heavy metals as a fundamental barrier to getting well early in your treatment, rather than as an afterthought when nothing else worked. The National Candida Society has many members who attribute at least part of their recovery to mercury removal, and many practitioners are coming to realize the pivotal role that heavy metals play in Candida overgrowth.

Good quality chlorella lines the gut wall, and mops up the free toxins found there. High toxicity and increasing symptoms need larger doses. This is very important, and differs from the usual advice to reduce supplements if detoxing intensifies symptoms. Cilantro (coriander) should be taken thirty minutes after chlorella, because it causes the gall-bladder to dump bile, containing the excreted neurotoxins, into the small intestine, for removal by chlorella. Garlic helps to oxidise mercury, cadmium and lead, and makes these metals water soluble, thus helping excretion. The selenium found in garlic is the most important mineral to protect against mercury toxicity. Fish Oil. Mercury and other toxic metals attach and disable the cell, and to make new ones the body needs a good supply of fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA. Although EPA and DHA can be manufactured from oils other than fish oils, this process is too slow for the enormous demand for repair from heavy metal damage. You should ensure that the fish source is mercury and contaminant free.

Balanced Electrolyte Solution

Without a healthy autonomic nervous system, with good electric potential, toxins cannot be moved out of cells into the circulation for expulsion. Stopping ordinary table salt, and replacing it with natural ocean salt can help. Himalayan Crystal Salt is something to consider – less polluted than salt from the ocean, this salt not only replenishes electrolytes, but also helps to balance the body’s pH. The solution of dissolved rock salt needs good quality energized water. For this consider two systems that change the structure of the water in very profound ways – the Grander or the Plocher systems (see below). Exact dosages of all these foods and products need to be worked out on an individual basis. The program needs to be followed for a minimum of three to four months, and for up to 24 months in severe cases. It is important to be aware that there are varying qualities of coriander, and different varieties. See below for recommended products. Throughout, consider a basic daily intake of a living food, such as powdered organic green barley, to oxygenate the blood, and deliver life giving enzymes. Two new probiotics to consider are Prime Directive from Safe Remedies, and FloraGuard from BioCare. Prime Directive is recommended because of its ease of absorption, in that the beneficial bacteria come with their own food source, and thus the nutrition it provides is easily absorbe by the body because it is broken down by the bacteria. This is an excellent product for fatigue, and those who experience malabsorption. FloraGuard, from BioCare, combines plant oil extracts with probiotics, released in two stages, and practitioners are reporting very favourable responses for those with candida. Until more dentists are trained, you may have problems finding one who is up to date with the latest procedures, and research. The International Association of Oral Medicine Toxicology has a list of about 60 dentists. For a copy contact Dr John Ahearne, Moonfleet Dental Practice, 30 Bournemouth Road, Lower Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, BH14 OES, enclosing an SAE.

As candida fungi circulate in the bloodstream, they secrete toxins that create a variety of negative effects. These toxins can cause cancer, destroy our organs, alter our immune system, and affect our hormonal balance. Despite the potential for serious health implications, yeast infections are rarely treated with due care. Often, women self-diagnose as a result of visible or discernable symptoms and self-medicate using over the counter creams and oral remedies. The fact is though, that many people, if not the vast majority of the population, suffer from yeast overgrowth and don’t even know it. What’s more, while yeast infections are thought to be, and treated as, a root ailment, they are actually a symptom! The presence of yeast is usually an indication of other parasites and of heavy metals. In his book “Infectious Diabetes”, Doug Kaufman clearly shows how the metabolic by-products from yeast (also known as mycotoxins) can cause diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is in fact a yeast disease! In recent studies, subjects with Type 2 Diabetes were able to recover from their symptoms purely by treating the yeast infection. Diabetes is known to be an illness relating to body sugar – patients control their symptoms by regulating their sugar intake – yeast loves sugars associated with a sugar-rich diet. Manage the sugar, manage the yeast, and ultimately manage the illness. BUT, if patients deal with the heavy metal toxicity which gave rise to the yeast in the first place, they would have a chance at actually reversing the illness altogether. What can be done? Eating a well-balanced diet (avoiding sugar-rich foods specifically) is a start, but as long as a high amount of heavy metals are present in the body, we can have little success in treating candida and its resulting ailments, including diabetes. Heavy metals establish the perfect terrain for the development of fungus (as well for parasites, bacteria, mycoplasmas and viruses). In order to effectively eliminate and deter yeast overgrowth, we must detoxify and eliminate heavy metals. To better understand how well your body is able to handle heavy metals, seek diagnostic testing from an environmental health practitioner, or take a Heavy Metal Screen Test. Developed by Nissen Medica Inc. The Nissen Medica Heavy Metal Screen Test is a home-based kit to determine the presence of heavy metals in your body and/or environment. It is an easy accurate process using a dithizone reagent which has been known to chemical science for more than 60 years. The Heavy Metal Screen Test is effective as an early indicator of heavy metal intoxication and is useful as a monitoring tool throughout one’s detoxification process.

Suggested protocol

• Take:

o 3-5 tablespoons of essential fatty acids daily (eg. sesame oil, hemp seed oil, pumpkin seed oil)

o An Anti-fungal supplement

o Lactobacillus probiotic (to promote intestinal health)

o Trace minerals

o Zinc supplement 15-50mg/day

o Protein supplement

• Take an oral chelator daily

• Ensure regular bowel movements and drink high amounts of low mineral water (reverse-osmosis, distilled water)

• Modify your Diet. Avoid items that directly contain yeast such as breads, beer and wine. Eliminate candy, cookies, sodas, sweets, fruits and fruit juices as well as other sugars (corn syrup, honey, fructose). Stay on a low-carb diet.

• Other supportive modalities include the use of a trampoline (to improve lymphatic circulation), sauna, clay bath, colonics, yoga and meditation.

Heavy or toxic metals are trace metals with a density at least five times that of water. As such, they are stable elements (meaning they cannot be metabolized by the body) and bio-accumulative (passed up the food chain to humans). These include: mercury, nickel, lead, arsenic, cadmium, aluminum, platinum, and copper (the metallic form versus the ionic form required by the body). Heavy metals have no function in the body and can be highly toxic. Once liberated into the environment through the air, drinking water, food, or countless human-made chemicals and products, heavy metals are taken into the body via inhalation, ingestion, and skin absorption. If heavy metals enter and accumulate in body tissues faster than the body’s detoxification pathways can dispose of them, a gradual buildup of these toxins will occur. Highconcentration exposure is not necessary to produce a state of toxicity in the body, as heavy metals accumulate in body tissues and, over time, can reach toxic concentration levels. Hence cleansing the organs responsible for detox pathway.

For cure – cause must be addressed.

YOU TREAT THE WHOLE BODY BY FIRST DEALING WITH:

· ACID BASE imbalance which almost always is metabolic acidosis (adequate water, exercise, diet, baking soda, getting rid of Metal residues)

· OXIDATION/REDUCTION STATUS (how rusty you are due to ph imbalance / you need to slow down the oxidation of oils and far with antioxidants : Vitamin A, C, E, Zinc [skin problems and eye problems require vit. A)

In addition, you want to supplement with good oils : flax oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil

· TOXIC METAL RESIDUES (avoidance of pesticides, prescription drugs and elimination of heavy metals). Here you wish to address the specific metal. Yet, in general you want to drink plenty. I keep trying to drink 10 glasses of water a day (so as to avoid fasting) I usually take a glass of juice followed by one of water: between meals and again half an hour before meals. And even so, I keep waking up at night thirsty as can be, 2 or 3 times and I drink some more water.

· MICROORGANISMS in our case, mostly Candida (Garlic, yogurt) Avoid constipation with the use of fibers, enemas, colonics, or 3 cloves of garlic eaten whole.

A FEW MORE HINTS ON HEAVY METAL DETOX

Furthermore, the body detoxification process takes place at nighttime. Like me, you might have spent the past years being proficient in your professional and personal life and, sometimes, cutting down in your sleeping time? Now it’s time to pay back, relax and sleep a lot to allow the heavy metals out. Sleeping is important. You might have chronic fatigue, well your body knows what’s good for you. You might also have experience the occasional fever at night. This is a form of natural defense of your body, you want to reproduce: BY being warm at night when you sleep, BY sweating while exercising (abdominal exercise is also a good massage for your intestine) Well, yes, I went all the way down to chronic fatigue and, back then, my exercise sessions consisted in a few stretches. This STILL IS EXERCISE and its important. [To help you sweat while exercising, wear an extra layer of clothing. Sweating is another way to let toxic waste out.] BY going to the sauna, or better the steam room of a spa. I let myself sleep as much as my body needs. A few months ago – along with fasting, liver flushes and enema treatments – I would constantly need 12 hours sleep. At some point you will reduce your sleeping time NATURALLY and, I admit, it feels great to have all this time back. Exercises helps reduce sleeping time.

WHY IS ORGANIC FOOD A WISE CHOICE? Because most pesticides are actually heavy metals that are going to kill the insects. SO IF YOU DO NOT USE ORGANIC FOOD. Make sure you peel off veggies and fruits before consumption to avoid assimilation of the heavy metals on its surface.

Here are some foods you WANT to EAT. Crowd out the bad with TOO MUCH GOOD!
